Art Museums of the World: Focus on Landscape

The Google Art Project internet site allows viewers to digitally "walk" through the great museums of the world, from the Palace of Versailles in France to the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia. The site also makes it possible to zoom into paintings to see detail not available to the naked eye. In this course, Dr. Harvey will lead a tour of the great museums of the world, including the Uffizi in Florence, Italy; the National Gallery in London, England; the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City; and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The theme of the tours will be landscape, with a focus on how the artistic depiction of the natural world changed from the Renaissance to Post-Impressionism.
